Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka has asked the employees of the Andhra Pradesh Heavy Machinery & Engineering Limited (APHMEL) to work towards making the company compete with similar companies across the world.
During a visit to the APHMEL, a subsidiary of the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), in Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada on Thursday, along with Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL N. Balaram, he interacted with the workers and later spoke to the media.
The Deputy CM stated that no other company has better machinery and human resources than APHMEL, among the engineering companies manufacturing spare parts for new industries and repairing old ones across the world. He stated that what the officers and workers of the company required was commitment and the mindset that “we can compete with the world”.
The APHMEL could compete globally with commitment, mindset and the drive to effectively utilise the existing systems. If these are in place, he said, APHMEL too can compete globally, he said and announced that a consultancy would soon be appointed to study the local conditions and submit a report on the company.
Based on that report, the government would decide the course of action for the progress of the company. He stated that better the officials and staff perform, greater the profits would be, leading to more employment opportunities for local youth and contributing to the progress of the two Telugu States.
Asking the employees of the plant to keep the machinery clean by periodic overhauling, the Deputy Chief Minister said the unit should not limit itself to manufacturing new machinery and repairing old parts for Singareni Collieries alone but should also take orders from across the country and function like BHEL. He said APHMEL was also into manufacturing machinery for thermal power stations and repairing the old ones.
