Indian Police Foundation(IPF) entered a memorandum of understanding with Tamil Nadu Police on Friday for conducting internal police reforms projects and undertaking other research/capacity building activities with Tamil Nadu police. 

Indian Police Foundation is an independent, multidisciplinary premier think tank on law enforcement, governed by an eminent board consisting of reputed police professionals (both serving and retired), academia, researchers and civil servants dedicated to the improvement of policing in India. 

Former Director General of Police(DGP), Uttar Pradesh  Om Prakash Singh who is  the president of Indian Police Foundation. Former DGP(Vigilance), Telangana Ish Kumar who is vice president signed the agreement with Tamil Nadu DGP Shankar Jiwal at the Tamil Nadu Police headquarters. Former DGP, K.Radhakrishnan who was member 5th Police Commission, Tamilnadu was also present. 

Mr. Jiwal said in a press release that Tamil Nadu Police is always committed to citizen friendly policing through its community engagement.

Mr. Om Prakash Singh said this project focuses on improving police public interface, delivering a wider range of public friendly services and improving the grievance redressal mechanism at police stations to foster trust and serve the communities in a better way. Project will lay special emphasis on women security, victim assistance and improving the working conditions of police. 

The Internal Police Reforms Project will cover 15 police stations in Avadi Commissionerate and 15 police stations in Chengalpattu district. Public consultation meetings will be conducted with stakeholders including complainants, victims, accused, citizen service seekers, NGOs, judiciary and police personnel to identify core issues/focus areas, prepare a change manual and to provide training to all the police personnel.

 Project will be implemented for one year and based on 3rd party evaluation, the successful recommendations will be escalated to all police stations in Tamil Nadu. The project is simultaneously being undertaken in Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Telangana also, said Mr Om Prakash Singh.  EOM
