The City Police handed over 13 types of stolen property worth ₹1.21 crore to the rightful owners at a mela on Friday. The recovered properties included 1.26 kg of gold ornaments and 1.92 kg of silver ornaments.
Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi told the media that 101 property offences were reported in the city in July this year. Special investigation teams arrested 66 offenders in connection with 64 cases during the month and recovered properties worth ₹83,08,150. Further, 250 stolen mobile phones worth ₹37.50 lakh were also recovered, taking the total value of recovered properties to ₹1,20,58,150, he said.
The 64 cases that were detected included two cases of robbery, four cases of house-breaking by day, 11 cases of house-breaking by night, one case of snatching, two cases of car thefts, one case of autorickshaw theft, 19 cases of motor-cycle thefts, five cases of wire thefts, one case of personal property and 18 cases of ordinary thefts, Mr. Bagchi said.
As part of preventive measures, 374 CCTV cameras were installed at various places in the city during July, and 138 crime awareness meetings were held. Drone beats continued in isolated areas for surveillance over criminals and illegal activities, he said.
“People can lodge complaints about stolen mobile phones via Chatbot number 9490617916 or CEIR portal,” the Police Commissioner said.
