The civil society plays a key role in giving hope and protecting dignity of cancer patients who require palliative care, said Member of Parliament Kanimozhi NVN Somu.
Speaking at a fundraising event for cancer patients on Sunday, Dr.Kanimozhi said cancer care should be affordable, and fundraising events create greater awareness about palliative care among residents.
Actor Maadhu Balaji who staged a drama for the fundraising event said performers in theatre and performing arts should continue to sensitise people about palliative care and affordable cancer care. Actor Sathish M said the doctors who provide cancer care will continue to get support from various forms of dramatic presentation.
Vijayalakshmi, Chairman, Jus’ Onco Palliative Care Trust, said the special event has inspired compassionate hearts to support cancer patients and their families. “Laughter is also a form of healing. The proceeds from this fundraiser help us deliver compassionate palliative services free of cost.”
Industrialist VG Santhosam; Jagadeesh Chandra Bose, Surgical Oncologist, T R Muralidharan, Senior Cardiologist and Gajasaraj, palliative care physician, participated.
