Four complex jaw surgeries were performed at Meenakshi Hospital in Thanjavur through the 3D-based Virtual Surgical Planning for high-impact corrective orthognathic (jaw) surgery technique in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati, U.S.
According to an official release, a team from the University of Cincinnati, led by global experts Deepak Krishnan and James Phero, flew to Thanjavur for this purpose to perform the complex jaw surgery which involved highly challenging conditions, more than 12 mm gap between the upper and lower jaws and significant vertical jaw asymmetry on four patients on August 27 and 28. Post surgery, the patients, including a boy, experienced significant improvements in both jaw function and facial aesthetics, the release added.
