A high-level delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) “Pudhu Madurai” Taskforce (The United Voice of Madurai), led by its chairman Ashwin Desai, visited Vizag on Friday and met Union Minister for Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu.
Aimed at enhancing Madurai’s aviation infrastructure and connectivity, the meeting focused on key proposals such as operationalisation of Madurai as an international airport, which would enhance regional and international connectivity.
The delegation suggested strengthening the domestic air connectivity to and from Madurai as it would support business, tourism and regional development in multiple spheres. They also emphasised the need to upgrade Madurai airport’s infrastructure to accommodate wide-body aircraft, which would increase capacity and improve long-haul connectivity.
Along with the Minister, Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar and CII vice president Suchitra K Ella, former CII Madurai zone past chairman Ligi George and Agro Food Chamber president S. Rethinavelu were present.
Mr. Desai expressed optimism that these measures would significantly improve Madurai’s air connectivity, benefiting not just the city, but the wider region in terms of economic growth, tourism, and global trade.
