Thoothukudi police are on the lookout for unidentified persons, who allegedly broke into two houses near SIPCOT area, and stole about 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery.
In the first incident, M. Bagavathi, 68, a resident of Gandhi Nagar near Nikelesan Nagar had gone to Sivakasi on August 28 to attend a family function. When she returned on Saturday (August 30), she found the front door of her house broken open. On checking inside she discovered that her almirah had been forced open and 36 sovereigns of gold jewellery were allegedly missing.
In another incident in the same locality, R. Sarawathi, 73, usually stays at her son’s house nearby during night. When she returned on Saturday (August 30) morning, she found the door open and almirah broken. Around four sovereigns of gold jewellery had been stolen.
On receiving the information SIPCOT police visited the houses and conducted inquiries. Forensic experts and a dog squad inspected both the houses.
Both cases were registered at SIPCOT police station and further investigations are on.
