Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that his government is committed to continuing the legacy of late Chief Minister of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, by taking up the Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanti project by constructing the dam at Tummidhetti barrage, besides resuming the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC).

Addressing the YSR Memorial Awards event at a hotel here on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy recalled the pioneering welfare and development programmes of YSR as Chief Minister in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.

“To address the issues of drought in upland areas like Rangareddy district, YSR proposed the Pranahita-Chevella project. We will complete his dream by taking up the barrage at Tummidihetti. We will also resume and complete the SLBC tunnel despite obstacles to meet the irrigation as well as the drinking water needs of the fluoride-hit Nalgonda district,” he said, adding that he would strive to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister, as ‘desired’ by YSR.

Stating that no one dares to withdraw schemes like Aarogyasri and fee reimbursement, Mr. Reddy reminded that his government had increased the coverage from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh under the scheme. The CM also reminded that they had implemented loan waiver for farmers, amounting to nearly ₹20,617 crore for the benefit of about 26 lakh farmers within three months of coming to power.

He also stressed the importance of organic farming, citing Subhash Palekar’s inspiration, stating that his government would prepare plans to encourage organic farming. Mr. Reddy also praised Congress senior leader KVP Ramachandra Rao for his lifelong selfless friendship with YSR, making many sacrifices.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said that the Congress government led by Revanth is moving forward by implementing the thoughts of YSR and the ideology of the Congress party. Describing YSR as a great leader who showed how governance should be and how a government should function, Bhatti said it was the duty of his friends and followers to carry forward his ideals and thoughts.

The YSR Memorial Awards were presented to Subhash Palekar, Dr. Chadalavada Nageswara Rao, and C. Padma.
