Traffic will be restricted on Kamaraj Salai from Thursday morning to facilitate reconstruction works after demolition of the damaged old culvert along Uppanar Bridge near Balaji Theatre. 

According to an official release from the police, all medium vehicles and two-wheelers plying from west to east direction on Kamaraj Salai from Rajiv Gandhi signal to Periyar Statue junction will be allowed to travel on the new bridge for proceeding towards Raja Theatre junction.

Two-wheelers proceeding from east to west direction from Raja Theatre will be allowed on the new culvert via the designated barricading on the new bridge and can proceed towards Balaji Theatre-Periyar Statue-Rajiv Gandhi Square.

Other vehicles coming from Raja Theatre junction should take a right turn at GRT junction and proceed via Vallalar Salai-45 feet Road-Saram Avvai Thidal to reach Kamaraj Salai, the release said.

Heavy and medium vehicles, including route buses and buses of educational institutions, except emergency vehicles, will not be allowed to enter Anna Salai and Kamarajar Salai via Ajanta Junction. They need to take a diversion at SVP Salai from Ajantha Junction and reach town area via Gingee Salai-Sonampalayam-Subbaiyah Salai-MM Salai, the police said.

The demolition and reconstruction work was part of the long-delayed construction of road overbridge along the Uppanar drain.
