Abhilash Pillai to be School of Drama Director

The Syndicate of the University of Calicut has decided to appoint theatre director Abhilash Pillai as the Director of the School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur.

The decision was taken at a meeting held on the university campus at Tenhipalam in Malappuram on Tuesday. V. Vijayakumar would be appointed as coordinator of the National Service Scheme on deputation basis. P.R. Biju would be appointed as Professor, Department of Political Science, on similar lines.

A sub-committee was formed to identify teachers’ posts to implement 4% reservation for the differently abled category. The meeting approved PhD degrees for 105 people. Another sub-committee was formed to study the proposal to start an integrated BEd programme at the university’s Education department. T. Mohamed Saleem, Kavumbayi Balakrishnan, K. Pradeep Kumar, and P. Rasheed Ahammed would be its members.

Affiliation would be granted to Majlis College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Valanchery, and Safi Institute of Advanced Study (Autonomous) to start integrated BEd programmes. A Deputy Director would be appointed on deputation basis at the Centre for Distance and Online Education.

The Syndicate meeting was held after a gap of around two months, and close to 300 items were on its agenda. It was decided to hold another meeting on September 17 to take up items which could not be taken up on Tuesday.
