The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chennai Zone, has seized 590 kg of ganja worth ₹3 crore, and arrested six persons who were allegedly involved in trafficking the contraband.
The operation was conducted at Gummudipoondi in Tiruvallur, following a tip-off.
Six persons were arrested on charges of orchestrating the illicit trafficking of ganja. The seized ganja was transported in two vehicles, which were later seized.
The accused have been identified as T. Alexpandi, 29, of Jegathapatinam; Sheikh Abdulla Kamardeen, 31, and S. Ramanathan, 35, of Aranthangi; Vinoth Poosalingam, 36, of Thanjavur; and Bharathi, 31, and C. Manikandan, 45, of Coimbatore.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested individuals are part of a larger syndicate involved in international and inter-state trafficking of ganja.
Further investigations are under way to identify and apprehend additional members of the syndicate, the NCB said in a press release.
