A Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine was inaugurated at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC), on Thursday. The advanced radiotherapy equipment, worth ₹32.50 crore was donated by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The LINAC machine is a powerful medical device that generates high-energy X-rays or electron beams to treat cancer by precisely targeting and destroying tumor cells.

POWERGRID director (personnel) Yatindra Dwivedi, and director (projects) Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra inaugurated it in the presence of Umesh Mahantshetty, director of the Research Centre.

Mr. Dwivedi said that POWERGRID is committed to supporting critical sectors like healthcare through its CSR funds. He said that the company has partnered with the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre to bring life-saving technology to the people in the region.

Dr. Umesh Mahantshetty said that this is the first LINAC machine of its kind in Andhra Pradesh. It will not only enhance treatment capabilities but also reduce the burden on patients by offering faster and more sophisticated radiation therapy. The new machine will serve thousands of patients from Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states Odisha, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh.
