PMK Town Panchayat chairman survives attempt on life in Thanjavur, party cadres stage protest

Aduthurai Town Panchayat chairman M.K. Stalin of Pattali Makkal Katchi survived an attack on him on the civic body office premises on Friday (September 5, 2025). Two others were injured in the attack and were admitted to hospital.

According to sources, Mr. Stalin was attacked in the afternoon when he was talking to some persons in the office. A gang which arrived by a car threw an explosive and attempted to attack him with lethal weapons.

But Mr. Stalin escaped from the attack and locked himself up in a nearby room at the civic body office. In the melee, two persons – Ilaiyaraja and Arun – sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital.

On hearing about the attack, the PMK cadres and members of Vanniyar Sangam converged at the Town Panchayat office. They staged a demonstration at the junction of Kumbakonam-Mayiladuthurai-Sooriyanarkovil junction by burning discarded tyres and demanding the arrest of the assailants.

The demonstration was withdrawn after the police and Revenue Officials assured them of action and the road was cleared for vehicular traffic. Police pickets were posted in Aduthurai to ensure peace in the area, sources said.
