Four car passengers from Karnataka, who were on their way to a relative’s house in Erode, were killed in an accident near Salem on Saturday (June 7, 2025).
The deceased were identified as D. Ranaram (55), a resident of Ballari in Karnataka; his wife, R. Jodthi Devi (50); his brother, D. Jehkaram (59); and his relative, J. Johith Devi (55).
The injured were identified as U. Amiyya Devi, Jokthi Devi, and Jodharam.
According to the police, the car with seven people was heading to Salem from Tiruvannamalai. When it was plying on the flyover at Pudhupatti Mariamman Temple near Vazhapadi on the Salem-Chennai National Highway on Saturday evening, the car driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle hit the wall of the flyover.
The car was severely damaged, and of the seven passengers, three died on the spot and four sustained grievous injuries. The local residents sent the injured to the Vazhapadi Government Hospital and a private hospital in Salem. Another person succumbed to injuries at the Vazhapadi Government Hospital.
The Vazhapadi police rushed to the spot and cleared the traffic on the highway. Investigations revealed the family members who came in the car are natives of Rajasthan and are presently residing in Karnataka.
The Vazhapadi police registered a case and are investigating.
