The sluice gates of Krishnagiri Reservoir Project (KRP) dam was opened to irrigate the dam’s watershed area for the first cropping season by Collector C. Dinesh Kumar in Krishnagiri on Wednesday (July 16, 2025). The water is being released through the left main canal (LMC) and the right main canals (RMC) to irrigate 9,012 acres spread over 16 villages.

The waters are being released for 120 days starting July 16, until December 11, 2025.

A total of 151 cb.ft will be released from the reservoir for a period of 120 days. This entails 75 cb.ft through RMC and 76 cb.ft through LMC of the reservoir. Over 16 panchayats including Periyamuthur, Thimmapuram, Sundekuppam, Sowtahalli, Thallihalli, Kalvehalli, Kundalpatti, Mittahalli, Errahalli, Penneswaramadam, Kaveripattinam, Balekuli, Marisettihalli, Nagojanahalli, Janaparahalli, and Payyur, will be benefitted.

As of Wednesday, the storage in the reservoir is at 15,46.18 cb.ft (50.95 ft). The inflow into the reservoir was 267 cb.ft, and the outflow through the canal was 12 cusecs and the river sluice was 255 cb.ft. The administration has urged farmers to use the water judiciously.
