Any source of danger gets compounded when it is found around those lacking in the life experience that would cause them to instinctively steer clear of it.

That is why after the stork has delivered a bundle, new parents shop for plug cover guards.

A power transformer that is not encased in safety grilling is a threat anywhere; more so in a school zone.

On Santhome High Road (which instantly brings to mind students of half a dozen schools crowding the bus stops around 3.30 p.m.), a transformer outside Santhome Higher Secondary School has continued without a casing for decades. To be charitable, heightened safety concerns around transformers are of recent origin. However, at least in recent times, when transformers on the Health Track in Besant Nagar and those in a few other localities were “swaddled” in “metal blankets”, this transformer should have been given a similar honour.

When it seemed that it would not receive one in a million years, work on erecting a metallic safety grille around it has started.
