A 30-year-old man has been arrested for hitting a National Security Guard (NSG) officer with his car in south-west Delhi’s R.K. Puram, the police said on Monday. The incident took place on July 9 and the accused had been on the run since then.
The victim, identified as Narender Singh was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he is undergoing treatment. The accused has been charged with Sections 281 (rash driving) and 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Amit Goel, the accused, Pawan Kumar Chauhan, was returning from Haridwar with his family when he dozed off behind the wheels because of exhaustion and hit Mr. Singh.
After the incident, the accused panicked, dropped his family at their residence in Rajokari and fled to Noida to evade arrest, the DCP said.
On July 24, a tip-off about the accused’s presence at his Rajokari residence led the police to raid the location. Chauhan was apprehended and the car used in the offence was found, the DCP said, adding that he accused has been working as a driver for five years.
