From Nanakramguda to Nizampet, from Neredmet to Nallagandla, and from Annojiguda to Beeramguda, broadband and cable TV services have been disrupted in Hyderabad after the electricity department officials began acting on dangling cables.

The action has been triggered by a series of fatalities due to the hanging cables in Ramanthapur, Amberpet and Bandlaguda in a span of 24 hours.

As the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana employees began removing the cables hanging from the utility’s infrastructure, reports of disruption began on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) afternoon. By evening it was a sweep of complaints from across the the city.

“No Cable TV in our home since yesterday…looks like the cable TV wires were cut by the power department for using their poles,” said Sunder Nagesh. Imran, a resident of Shastripuram near Rajendranagar, said he missed an important meeting due to the sudden outage of the service.

“It was down yesterday at 10 p.m., but fixed by 7 p.m.. now it’s fine,” said a resident of Kukatpally.

“Even the mobile internet was struggling. What was the point of cutting the cables?

And now, just visit the lane opposite SLN Terminus, Gachibowli, cables are lying all over the road, causing inconvenience,” shared Aarif Mohammed on X formerly Twitter.

“This is good but have a proper backup plan in place, many professionals, schools etc are facing no internet since morning. Have a prior intimation to public so they can have alternate arrangements. Pls restore at the earliest possible,” wrote another social media user.

Reacting to the development, the Cable Operators Association of India issued a statement. “Today, a major network outage is affecting a large number of home broadband users in the city. This disruption has been caused by the electricity department’s indiscriminate and aggressive cutting of optical fiber cables. The COAI wishes to highlight that internet cables do not carry electricity and are therefore unrelated to power infrastructure,” said Lt. Gen Dr. S.P. Kochhar, Director General, COAI.
