Two women were killed after a car lost control and rammed a two-wheeler near KTC Nagar on the Tirunelveli-Thoothukudi highway on Sunday.
Police said, Suresh of Tirunelveli was travelling with his wife Varuna, 45, and daughters to Thoothukudi, when the car’s front tyre burst. The vehicle which lost control, hit the two-wheeler of J. Malar, from Krishnarajapuram, causing her to fall and die on the spot. Varuna, who was thrown out of the car in the impact also died at the spot.
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and rescued Suresh and his daughters with the help of Fire and Rescue Service personnel. The trio sustained severe injuries and they were admitted to Tirunelveli Government Medical College and Hospital (TGMCH) for further treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were sent for post mortem examination at TGMCH.
An accident case has been registered at Tirunelveli Traffic Investigation Wing. Further investigations are on.
