The cyber crime police on September 1, arrested a man for allegedly morphing photographs of a minor girl —his sister-in-law (sister of his wife)— into obscene pictures and posting them on social media. The accused reportedly created a fake Instagram account, and posted obscene content, where he portrayed his sister-in-law as a ‘call girl.’
The incident came to light when the girl, shocked by the morphed pictures, lodged a complaint with the police along with her mother.
Following investigations, the police identified the culprit to be none other than the husband of the victim’s elder sister. Police learnt that the accused committed the act due to personal grudges and with the intent to defame the family. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, the police have withheld the identity of the accused.
The accused was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
Commissioner of Police, Shankabratha Bagchi has urged citizens to be extremely cautious on social media and advised people not to accept friend requests or messages from unknown individuals. He also asked people to keep their social media accounts private to safeguard their personal information.
