A wheelchair rally was organised in Madurai on Friday with the main objective to exhibit strength, grit and determination of those suffering from spinal cord injuries.

The rally organised by Poovanthi Institute of Rehabilitation and Elder Care was flagged off by Director Emeritus of Aravind Eye Care System G. Natchiar and B. Shibu of Poovanthi Institute of Rehabilitation and Elder Care. The rally was taken out from Rajah Muthiah Mandram to Gandhi Memorial Museum.

The theme of the event was ‘Fall prevention – Spinal Cord protection’. Focus should be more on preventing falls and road accidents to save human lives. Road accidents cause approximately 70% cases of spinal cord injuries. Participants held placards carrying messages on road safety and in support of those with spinal cord injuries.
