A fire broke out in a 24-storey residential building in the western suburbs in Mumbai on Sunday (September 7, 2025) afternoon, civic officials said.

There were no reports of casualties in the blaze that erupted around 3 p.m. on the seventh floor of New Janakalyan Society at Shanti Nagar in Dahisar East, an official said.

Deputy Fire Officer Deepak Ghosh said, ā€œThe fire broke out in the two-meter cabins of the B-wing. We began efforts to control the fire as soon as our teams arrived at the scene.ā€

ā€œWe deployed staircases at three locations and rescued people who were trapped inside the building,ā€ he added.

The official said that the high-rise was smoke-logged, posing difficulties for firefighters.

ā€œAt least seven fire engines and other emergency response vehicles were at the spot,ā€ he said, adding that the cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
