A fire broke out in a 24-storey residential building in the western suburbs in Mumbai on Sunday (September 7, 2025) afternoon, civic officials said.
There were no reports of casualties in the blaze that erupted around 3 p.m. on the seventh floor of New Janakalyan Society at Shanti Nagar in Dahisar East, an official said.
Deputy Fire Officer Deepak Ghosh said, āThe fire broke out in the two-meter cabins of the B-wing. We began efforts to control the fire as soon as our teams arrived at the scene.ā
āWe deployed staircases at three locations and rescued people who were trapped inside the building,ā he added.
The official said that the high-rise was smoke-logged, posing difficulties for firefighters.
āAt least seven fire engines and other emergency response vehicles were at the spot,ā he said, adding that the cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
