A special music performance by Soujanya Bhagavatula, Telugu Indian Idol winner and playback singer, marked the completion of 20 years of comprehensive cancer care by the Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (MGCHRI) at Vizag Conventions, Madhurawada, here on Sunday (September 7) evening.

What began in 2005 as a modest six-bed facility has grown into one of the largest and trusted teaching cancer institution in this part of the country. The institute has worked tirelessly across the spectrum of cancer care — awareness, prevention, early detection and evidence-based precision treatments — delivered by a multidisciplinary team of expert oncologists, said Murali Krishna Voonna, MD and chief surgical oncologist, in a statement.

The institute has touched the lives of over 2,00,000 patients and their families, extending vital care and support, especially to the most vulnerable. Its collaborations with NGOs such as Shreya Cancer Foundation, has enabled it to make cancer care affordable to all, he added.
