Two college students from Bengaluru drowned in a lake under Ramanagara Rural Police Station limits on Sunday, the police said.
The deceased have been identified as Nishanth, 20, and Siddarth, 21, both Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students at a private college in Bengaluru.
Preliminary investigation revealed that six friends had arrived in Bengaluru South district (formerly known as Ramanagara) in an SUV on Sunday morning and spent the day roaming around the area. Around 4.20 p.m., they visited Avverahalli Lake and began playing near the waterbody, a senior police officer said.
âNishanth, who did not know how to swim, slipped and fell into the lake. Siddarth entered the water to rescue him, but both drowned,â the officer explained.
Their friends immediately called for help, and rescue teams rushed to the spot. While one body was recovered quickly, the second took nearly two hours to retrieve.
âWe have informed their families about the incident. The bodies will be handed over after post-mortem,â another officer said. âWe are not certain whether the two had gone swimming or were only playing near the lake and taking pictures. Once the situation settles, we will question the other four friends to gather more details.â
