Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Minister P. Geetha Jeevan on Friday said that the habit of reading will enrich knowledge and refine intelligence, at the inaugural event of the sixth edition of Thoothukudi book fair.
The sixth edition of the Thoothukudi book fair, with the theme âThodarnthu Padi Thoothukudiâ is being held at Tharuvai Grounds from August 22 to August 31.
The event has been organised in partnership with the Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) and Thoothukudi district book fairâs organising committee. Thoothukudi Collector K. Elambahavath presided over the event.
Speaking at the event, Ms Geetha Jeevan urged school and college students to visit the book fair, noting that many events have been scheduled throughout the day at the venue.
Highlighting the dedicated space arranged for the authors, she said that the students would be able to interact with writers and gain valuable insights.
âEvery year people of Muthunagar throng eastward for the church festival. In the same way I exhort the people to flock eastwards to the Tharuvai Grounds for the book fairâ she added.
A total of 113 book stalls have been set up at the venue. In addition, a photo exhibition hall and a discussion forum for writers and speakers have also been arranged.
Thoothukudi Corporation Commissioner Banoth Mrugender Lal, District Forest Officer Revti Raman, Additional Collector (Development) R. Ishwarya, Thoothukudi ASP C. Madhan and other officials were present at the event.
