It is more important for Heads of Schools to ensure that students of Class I and II achieve the learning outcomes than merely getting promoted to the next classes, insisted Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.

Addressing Heads of Schools on State-level Assessement Survey (SLAS) 2025 here on Tuesday, Mr. Poyyamozhi said that basic education was important for children and it required more attention of the teachers.

“Things have changed from merely children getting higher education to those children getting admitted to the top institutions. Teachers should make an introspection of whether they have achieved the learning outcomes,” he said.

Stating that education was the biggest weapon for a country, he said parents were sending children to schools with their faith in the teachers. “The teachers should under the responsibility and duty in making the students completely understand what they learn,” the Minister said.

He said that Virudhunagar district had stood overall 18th rank in SLAS-2025 in the State. A total of 29,353 students from classes III, V and VIII from 981 Governemnt schools and 453 aided schools participated in the SLAS.

As per the assessement survey report, the district stood 16th rank in Class III, 11 rank in Class V and 20th rank in Class VIII. The assessemnt were in Tamil, English and Mathemathics.

The Heads of Schools should encourage all students, teachers and non-teaching staff.

District Revenue Officer R. Rajendran, and Assistant-Collector Sivakasi Mohamed Irfan, Director of Elementary Education P.A. Naresh, Joint Director (Elementary Education) Swaminathan, Joint Director (Integrated School Education) V. Kumar, Chief Educational Officer Mathankumar, District Educational Officers Selvi and Shanthi, were among those who were present.
